A contagious virus, human papillomavirus, causes warts. The virus is found in most damp, moist areas where people congregate. While this virus is prevalent throughout the country, it is not usually dangerous. There are many skin wart removal methods to choose from, but before we select one, we need to identify the wart. .
The major types of warts are:
1) Common warts
As a rule, Common warts appear on our hands, and present no health problem. While often annoying and unattractive they usually respond to over-the-counter products or home remedies and are generally removed at home. If, however, they become infected you might want to have a physician take a look to be sure there is no problem.
2) Flat Warts (also known as verruca plana or juvenile warts)
Flat warts often occur on those parts of our body that we shave. They will most likely appear on our face as well as on legs and underarms. Flat warts are reddish-brown or flesh colored and have a slightly elevated flat surface.
Flat warts are actually benign tumors. As such, they are not threatening, but, if you have a flat wart on your face, you may want to see your dermatologist. The dermatologist will be best able to determine the most suitable skin wart removal technique for extracting it without leaving a scar.
3) Genital Warts
Genital warts grow in pubic areas and inside the vagina and anal canals. Genital warts are contagious, easily transmitted from sexual partner to sexual partner. These warts can be very dangerous, even cancerous. It is best to schedule an appointment with your doctor if you believe you have genital warts as soon as possible.
4) Plantar Warts
Plantar warts appear on the bottoms of our feet. They pose no threat; in fact, they will go away without treatment if given enough time. Typically, however, they are very irritating so we often have them removed by a skin care professional.
Dermatologists tend to remove them using Cryotherapy Therapy (freezing) or surgically if they are deep. The only major concern here is whether the treatment has completely removed all of the wart — if not, the wart will recur.
5) Subungual and Periungual Warts
These are small warts found under and around the fingernails and toenails. They are not dangerous but can be uncomfortable and unattractive. If you find they are troubling you, you may want to see your Dermatologist or use one of the many skin wart removal treatments available over-the-counter.
In Sum
Skin warts can be painful, itch and burn but usually cause no lasting problem. Genital warts are the exception to this.
Many skin wart removal methods exist. Treatments may not work, however, if you haven’t been able to cure the underlying virus that caused the wart in the first place. In this case, the wart will grow back.
HPV is easy to get and to pass on. Young people, athletes and sexual partners are the most susceptible. The virus is especially prevalent in swimming pools, showers and lockers.
